The Certificate IV in Project Management focuses on eight knowledge areas and relates them in practical ways to the field of project management. It is designed for participants wishing to develop project management skills and knowledge, to a stage where they can competently assist in the planning, management and control of projects within their organisations.
The Certificate IV commences with a 2 day Project Management Fundamentals program combining introductory and case study work for those new to project work or team members who require an understanding of the fundamental approach to project management.
This section is particularly suitable for those involved in low value, low risk projects or multiple, independent projects. The content covers the four phases of project management – initiation, development, implementation and finalisation – with a focus on the early planning stages of project management.
The second part of the Certificate IV is attendance at a 3 day Advanced Project Management Program for project managers and team members who already understand the basic fundamentals of project management, are accountable for project outcomes, and wish to learn more in-depth tools and techniques of the profession.
This course will provide participants with the essential knowledge and skills to either manage a project or be an effective valuable member of a project team. It covers the fundamental steps in any project lifecycle, using a case study approach in order to follow a project from conception to completion.
Additional Resources Supplied
The course participants will be supplied with a significant suite of project management documentation including tools and templates in hardcopy and electronic format covering each assessable unit (8), which will also include reporting and change management documentation.
This methodology is the basis of a sound project management documentation framework and is used throughout the training sessions. This documentation will be used by the students to compile their portfolio of evidence in the workplace, which will be assessed for competency and qualification.
STUDENT PREPARATION
The maximum student course number is 12.
As a component of the course each student is asked to bring a live workplace based project into the classroom. Each student will do a 2-minute presentation of that project to the class group. The class will then determine which 3 projects of the 12 projects presented will be used in our planning exercises throughout the training sessions.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the Certificate IV in Project Management and related assessment tasks participants will:
- Access skills to manage small to medium sized projects.
- Effectively contribute to the management of a project.
- Have responsibility for a particular aspect across the entire project lifecycle such as team leader or technical expert.
